The invention relates to a filter for the absorption of odours, for example in deep fat fryers, which is essentially formed by a flat box provided with lower and upper filter orifices with an air-permeable covering on the inside, which box contains a filtering aid, e.g. charcoal granules, and is exchangeably inserted in a carrier, e.g. the top part of a deep fat fryer. The aim in such a filter is for it to comply fully with the requirements of foodstuff hygiene and little labour. This is achieved when the box (2) comprises two cup-like plastic shells (3, 4) telescopically engaging in each other and fixed relative to each other, and when the upper and lower filter orifices (18) are designed as spaces appropriate for the particular material strength (cf. 7). <IMAGE>
