In order to produce a moulding from a web-shaped moulding compound, the material of which can flow under heat and pressure and expands laterally, a mould (10, 11) is used, one moulding tool (10) of which has strip-shaped closure parts (13) at the edge of the mould cavity (12), which closure parts are displaceable within recesses (14) of this moulding tool (10). During the closing of the mould (10, 11), the closure parts (13) are in a raised state so that a lateral flowing-out of the precursor material (18') from the mould cavity during the closing is prevented. The closure parts (13) are disposed in the recesses (14) with a close lateral tolerance, so that no flash forms on the finished mouldings or a thin flash which may be present is torn off during ejection from the mould or during retraction of the closure parts (13). <IMAGE>
