The invention relates to a drive device for a double walking-beam furnace, e.g. for annealing sheets or other steel products. This drive device has two walking-beam systems lying inside one another which can be lifted and moved forward and subsequently lowered and moved back alternately in relation to one another. For the lifting and lowering movement on the one hand and the forward and backward movement on the other hand, an individual movement mechanism is in each case present. These movement mechanisms can according to the invention be driven via crank gears, the crank gear for the forward and backward movement being equipped with a speed control. This speed control is according to the invention constituted in such a manner that with it the speed of the last-mentioned crank gear can be adjusted downwards or upwards temporarily in one half of its crank circle in such a manner that as a result, in association with the circulating movement of the crank, there is an essentially uniform forward movement of the relevant walking-beam system. In this connection, it can be expedient that the crank gear for the lifting and lowering movement is essentially stoppable temporarily during the forward movement, but possibly also during the backward movement, of the walking-beam system. <IMAGE>
