In the case of extrusion heads of hinged design for the production of flat profiles, for example treads for tyres, a possibility of sealing them absolutely at the sealing surfaces to be pressed against each other after the hinged closing operation is presented. By virtue of including temperature control bores in the design of the clamping unit which comes to be used, depending on the design of the extrusion head, the cold shrinkage of the clamping unit is additionally utilised for an improved sealing at the sealing surfaces. Consequently, a very good additional sealing of the hinged head parts of the extrusion head is ensured in an extremely simple way.
