The hydraulic booster valve (1) has a control slide valve bore (3) in the valve housing (2), in which a control slide valve (4) is arranged so as to be axially displaceable, a pressure control passage (6) and a return control passage (7) being formed in the valve housing (2), which passages open out into the control slide valve bore (3), it being possible to close the return control passage (7) by means of actuation of the control slide valve (4) prior to or simultaneously with the opening of the pressure control passage (6) and a first overlap area (11) being provided between the pressure control passage (6) and a radial control groove (8) of the control slide valve (4). In order to achieve low sliding forces on the control slide valve (4) with a simplified construction and thereby to be able to use the booster valve also in the high pressure range, it is proposed that the radial control groove (8) be broader than the first overlap area (11), that a second overlap area (12) be provided in the actuating direction prior to the first overlap area (11), the second overlap area being narrower than the first overlap area (11) and narrower than the radial control groove (8), and that between the overlap areas (11, 12) in the valve housing a recess (9) opening out into the control slide valve bore (3) be provided which is wider than the second overlap area (12). <IMAGE>
