<p>The device is a modification of the conventional type of lamp socket accepting screw-type bulbs. The modification concerns the electrical contact to the outer threaded sleeve of the bulb base. The electrical contacts of the bulb base are fixed to an insulating platform inside the socket assembly. The outer contact is formed from a single metal pressing which is rivetted a screw-fixing terminal which connects the wire from outside. When in its deployed position, the contact presents a flat inclined surface inwards towards the bulb base and two side wings which are bent into position and beam down on the metal base of the fixture. When the bulb is screwed into the socket, the edge of the conducting sleeve comes into contact with the contact face and the side walls support it against being crushed into the side. This ensures a good electrical contact which is repeatable since it does not rely on the contact strip recoiling from a large deformation.</p> |
