Flap for the protection of appliances which have a gaseous or vaporous medium, especially air, flowing through them, against compression waves especially in ventilating and/or air-conditioning systems in order to protect the components, built-in portions, and ducts of the system, consisting of a frame structure and numerous plates (15), which are mounted pivotably about parallel axes and in one plane, and which are held in their open position by restoring forces and are supported against stops. Special features are: - the individual plates (15) consist of approximately planar strips, which are each mounted pivotably about an axis running in the region of one of their longitudinal edges, and - a support grid (5), attached to the frame structure and covering the area of the plate arrangement, is arranged after the plates (15) in the pressure impact direction (22) of the medium, its grid bars (9,7), arranged in a supporting array, have a mutual spacing matched to the strip width, and the plates, in their closed position, abut on the said grid bars at at least a large number of support points distributed over their entire length. <IMAGE>
