PURPOSE:To improve the cooling efficiency and safety, by injecting inert gas into the surface of charged matter in a blast furnace after the reduction of said charged matter in volume is started, so as to intercept the contact between steam to be used for cooling top gas and coke. CONSTITUTION:The falling of charged matter 2 in a furnace and its reduction in volume are detected, inert gas is injected into the surface of the charged matter 2 through a blast opening 3 at the same level as that of the surface of the charged matter, and steam is injected through other blast openings 3 provided at positions higher than that of the former blast opening so as to intercept the direct contact of the steam with coke in the charged matter 2. Consequently, the injection of the steam through all of the blast openings 3 above the charged matter 2 exposed to the interior of the furnace can be performed during the falling of the charged matter 2, so that the cooling efficiency and safety are improved. |
