PURPOSE:A material for sliding parts that is made by mixing carbon fibers, a stainless steel powder and a tetrafluoroethylene resin powder at a specific ratio and calcining them, thus being suitable for use in bearings, mechanical seals or oil seals, because of its high strength, high PV value and extremely high corrosion resistance. CONSTITUTION:For example, (A) 3-10% of carbon fibers of 7-8mu diameter and 0.5-1mm. length, (B) 5-30% of stainless steel of 100-350 mesh particle sizes, consisting of 19% Cr, 12% Ni, a small amount of Cu and the balance amount of Fe with austenite structure and (C) a balance amount of tetrafluoroethylene powder, are mixed by means of a mixer. The resultant mixture is placed in a mold to effect primary molding at 300-500kgf/cm<2>. Then, the product is calcined so that the temperature rises from room temperature to 380 deg.C in the course of about 5hr and the temperature is kept for about 3hr. Then, the product is cooled down to room temperature in the course of about 8hr and fabricated into a desired shape to give the objective material. |
