PURPOSE:To prepare a graphitic electrode having a high density and corrosion reistance, by pressing a kneaded mixture obtained by adding a binder to a raw material containing natural and/or artificial graphite with a rubber press, and calcining the pressed material. CONSTITUTION:A kneaded material obtained by kneading 60wt% or more natural and/or artificial graphite with 3-25wt% SiC or Si and/or 3-30wt% Fe-Si and a binder, e.g. tar, is molded by using a rubber press to a desired shape, and then calcined. Thus, a uniform graphitic electrode having a low electrical specific resistivity and porosity, improved mechanical strength and reduced oxidation loss is obtained. |
