Compounds of the formula <IMAGE> in which Ar denotes a mono- or bicyclic, carbocyclic or heterocyclic aryl radical bonded to a group Het via a ring carbon atom, Het denotes an azaphenylene radical bonded to the group Ar via a ring carbon atom and to the oxygen atom via a ring carbon atom, and alk denotes alkylene having 2-5 carbon atoms, the nitrogen atom and the oxygen atom being separated from one another by at least two carbon atoms, and R1 and R2 independently of one another each represent hydrogen or lower alkyl, or together represent lower alkylene, oxa-lower alkylene, thia-lower alkylene, aza-lower alkylene or N-lower alkylaza-lower alkylene, and N-oxides and salts of such compounds, process for their preparation, pharmaceutical preparations which contain the novel compounds and their use as blockers of adrenergic beta -receptors for the treatment of high blood pressure, angina pectoris, hypertrophic cardiomyopathies and cardiac arrhythmias.
