PURPOSE:To produce metallic powder forgings having excellent hardenability and toughness without decarburization by mixing a binder with metallic powder, which is produced by a spray method using an emulsion spraying medium, and molding the mixture under pressure then subjecting the molding to sintering followed by forging. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal is powdered by a spray method using an oil-in- water emulsion spraying medium or water-in-oil spraying medium consisting of a nonpolar solvent, mineral oils or animal or vegetable oils and water. A binder is added to the metallic powder, and the mixture is molded under pressure, whereby premoldings are formed. The premoldings are sintered by heating to sintered bodies which are forged to produces. Since the contents of carbon and oxygen in the raw materials are controlled by controlling the moisture concn. in the spray medium, there is no need for decarburization of the raw material powder or addition of a decarburizer thereto. |
