In a window lifter for motor vehicles, having a rope drive, the rope (16) of which is guided by way of a rope-deflecting part (20) along a deflection arc, it is proposed to articulate or mount displaceably on the rope-deflecting part (20) a rope skid (51), over which the rope (16) runs and which is prestressed in the direction of a retentioning of the rope by means of a helical pressure spring (95). The rope skid compensates changes in length of the rope loop during assembly and during operation. <IMAGE>
