PURPOSE:To obtain the titled mechanism which unnecessitates the provision of a blank part for avoiding printing in a type wheel and makes it possible to make the type wheel small or to increase the number of types which are held, by a method wherein the linking of a type-wheel pressing mechanism to the type wheel is cut off during an operation for releasing shift. CONSTITUTION:A printer has a driving unit A, a gear switching device B, a printing-type selecting system C, a printing system D, a printing wheel mechanism E, a shift mechanism F, a shift-releasing mechanism G, and first and second gates I and J for releasing paper feeding and allowing an operation of paper feeding. Only when both the first and second gates I and J allow the operation of the shift-releasing mehanism G, the mechanism G operates to return a carriage mechanism 32 to its home position. |
