PURPOSE:To enhance image quality, by generating two value dots in the character region of a document image, and generating a three value dot matrix pattern in the gradation image region in correspondence with the density of one picture element. CONSTITUTION:The document image is inputted to a character image memory 1 by a character image input device 7. Coordinate data is separated into the character region and the gradation image region and recorded in a coordinate storing memory 9 by a region separating circuit 8. At the time of recording, data is read from the memory 1 by an address register 10 and sent to a buffer memory 11. When the character region is judged by a judging circuit 12 based on the data in the memory 9, a comparator 13 compares the density of the picture element and a threshold value. A memory 14 or 15 for the black or white value is read, and the value is stored in an output line buffer 6. In the gradiational image region, generating timing is controlled by a dot matrix pattern generation control circuit 16. The three values of white, gray and black in correspondence with the density are stored in the buffer 6 from a pattern generating circuit 17. When the recording is performed in this method, the density in the character region is stabilized precisely, and the multiple stage densities in the gradational region are also stabilized. |
