A hydraulic steering system for a vehicle axle with steered wheels and track levers (12, 13) bent slightly inwards at the ends of the axles has a divided track rod (18, 19) which is integrated into the piston rods (14, 15) protruding out on both sides of a steering cylinder (16). In order to make the installation space small without additional joint connections for actuating the track levers (12, 13), the steering cylinder (16) is mounted on the front axle (1) by means of a bearing bushing (21) and a universal joint in such a way that it can be moved in all degrees of freedom apart from in the direction of its axial displaceability. The bearing bushing (21) is attached to a central axle profile (2) of the axle and receives a bolt (22) in a sliding manner, which bolt is connected at the end via a universal joint to the steering cylinder in its axial centre. The piston rods (14, 15) are of hollow construction and receive in an insertable, plug-in or screw-in manner the track rod parts (18, 19) which are connected at one end to the track levers (12, 13) in an articulated fashion, or said parts are of integral construction with the track rod parts and directly bring about track rod adjustment and wheel locking. <IMAGE>
