Process for the recovery of silver from metallurgical intermediates.

An aqueous slurry of the silver-containing intermediate is chlorinated to dissolve platinum group metals and gold having the silver in the residue, from which it is dissolved with an aqueous thiosulphate solution. When the intermediate contains lead, the thiosulphate leach solution should have a pH of at least 7. Silver is recovered from the final solution by cementation or reduction.
