PURPOSE:To automate tracking control and to improve its performance, by reproducing (m) kinds of pilot signals which while differing in frequency, phase, or time or spatial arrangement, are recorded on a video track. CONSTITUTION:During reproduction, a logical pilot signal F of the same frequency with a pilot signal is generated by a pilot signal generating circuit 9 and the local pilot signal and a reproduced pilot signal are sent to the mixer circuit 31 consisting of a double balanced modulator, which outputs a composite signal of difference frequency between both signal frequencies. A differential amplifier 36 outputs two differential voltage signals having different polarities, which are supplied to gate circuits 37 and 38; and a head phase detection signal SW and its inverted signal passed through an inverter circuit 39 are used as gate signals to concatenate the differential voltage signals differing in polarity, track by track, thereby obtain a successive correct tracking error signal TR. |
