<p>The secateurs comprise two intersecting articulated arms (1,2) incorporating a cutting edge (T) and an anvil (E) respectively. An efficient cutting action regardless of the diameter of the object being cut is obtained by using conjugate cutting edge (PT) and anvil (Pe) profiles arranged whereby the angle (alpha) subtended by the intersect tangents is constant. The angle may be between 15 and 30 degrees, lies between 20 and 30 degrees for preference, and is ideally 25 degrees. The cutting edge profile may be a compound curve with two lengths of different radii whilst the anvil profile is compounded of four curves. The first three anvil curves have progressively increasing radii whilst the last has a reduced radius. A specially designed machine is used to sharpen the tool.</p> |
