A machine table on which a metal or plastic section is mounted as workpiece (25) forms the base plate (3) of a drilling and milling apparatus which is guided by means of a compound-slide system (4-7) having guideways (4, 6) running at right angles to one another. Via a distributor drive (9), a drive motor (8) drives two tool spindles (10, 11) which are fitted with a stepped drilling/milling cutter (12) and a drill (16) respectively. A guide feeler (23) connected to the top slide (5) of the compound-slide system moves along a guide slot (22) which has two guide sections (22a, 22c) directed parallel to the axis and a guide section (22b) lying in between which runs at right angles thereto. <IMAGE>
