PURPOSE:To prepare methyl formate in high conversion and selectivity, by dehydrogenating methanol in vapor phase using a copper-type fluoro-tetrasilicon mica or copper-type taeniolite as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Methanol is dehydrogenated at 100-400 deg.C, preferably 180-300 deg.C in vapor phase to obtain methyl formate. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising a copper-type fluoro-tetrasilicon mica (a material obtained by exchanging >=30%, preferably 50-100% of the interlaminar cations of Na, Li, H, K or Ca-type fluoro-tetrasilicon mica with mono- or bi- valent copper ions), or a copper-type taeniolite (a material obtained by exchanging >=30%, preferably 50-100% of the interlaminar cations of Na, Li, H, K, or Ca-type taeniolite with mono- or bivalent copper ions). It is preferable to dilute the methanol with 0.4-4mol of an inert gas based on 1mol of methanol. The selectivity of methyl formate reaches almost 100%. |
