In a circuit arrangement for generating a rectangular-waveform multi-phase current from a DC voltage, having any desired number of phases, especially for the connection of multi-phase motors, whose rotational speed can be varied in specific regions by varying the frequency using semiconductor output stages which can be influenced by a control element, complementary semiconductor output stages being provided for each phase, which have two switch elements which are phase shifted through 180 DEG and can be driven at a duty cycle of 50 per cent, and exhibit storage and fall times during switching off, and delay and rise times during switching on, the respectively other switching element (7 or 6 respectively) can be switched on in a time which is greater than the sum of the storage (8 or 8' respectively) and fall time (9 or 9' respectively) thereof in order to prevent overlapping of the phase cycles, caused by the switching behaviour of the switching elements, after switching off the one switch element (6 or 7). <IMAGE>
