1509868 Pipe joints JOHNS-MANVILLE CORP 18 June 1976 [18 June 1975] 25270/76 Heading F2G Two heat-insulated metal pipes 16, 16a, which are each formed with an outer casing 18, 18a of polyvinylchloride spaced from the pipes 16, 16a by polyurethane foam insulation 20, 20a, the insulation ending short of the pipe ends and being fitted with an annular end seal 28, 28a of rubber, are joined by a coupling 14, e.g. of asbestos cement into which the end sections 22, 22a of the pipes are inserted, the coupling 14 having inner grooves 34, 34a thereon to accommodate sealing gaskets 36, 36a which seal against the end sections 22, 22a, the assembly being further sealed by provision of a coating on the sections 22, 22a before assembly, of a room temperature silicone rubber vulcanizing material 40, 40a which on assembly forms an axially extending part around the sections 22, 22a between the gaskets 36, 36a, and the seals 28, 28a and a radially extending part between the gaskets 28, 28a and the ends 32, 32a of the coupling 14, the vulcanizing material 40, 40a then being allowed to cure. |
