The heating boiler for liquid or gaseous fuels, consisting of a tubular insert which is arranged in a water-bearing housing and conducts the flame gases and flue gases and in which there is arranged on the draw-off side a downstream heating surface in the form of an externally ribbed tube set, heat exchanger or the like. In order to achieve as uniform as possible an action of the downstream heating surface and thus optimum temperature distribution of the flue gases behind the downstream heating surface, there is arranged at least behind the downstream heating surface (1) at least one screen (3) which reduces the entire free draw-off cross-section of the downstream heating surface (1) in a decreasing manner from the top to the bottom. Preferably, the rear wall of the combustion chamber (10) is likewise designed as a screen (3'') reduced from the top to the bottom. <IMAGE>
