Safety device for firearms, especially automatic pistols

The invention provides a safety device for firearms, especially for automatic pistols, consisting of two arms which are guided in the same direction and which are connected to one another and are fastened to the frame of the weapon by means of a journal. Formed on one of the arms of the safety device is an edge which is designed for contact with the catch of the hammer, and on the second arm is accommodated a pawl loaded by a spring and provided with an indentation and an oblique face which are adapted for contact with a bullet mounted in the orifice of the frame of the weapon. The safety device advantageously has the shape of the letter U, and for the sake of simplicity can also be produced by casting. Its construction allows a reliable actuation of the safety device or of the mechanism of the safety device from both sides of the weapon, so that the weapon can be actuated safely and conveniently both by right-handed and by left-handed persons, without the need to take any action on the weapon.
