The invention relates to a small-end bearing. In order to obtain as low a weight as possible of all the reciprocating masses, the gudgeon pin (2) for these pistons (1) is made as small as its strength properties allow. In order to be able to use a steel-piston internal combustion engine to the greatest possible extent unmodified for aluminium pistons too, an intermediate bush (7) situated on the gudgeon pin is, according to the invention, arranged between the gudgeon pin (2) serving to support the piston end of the connecting rod (5) and the small-end boss accommodating the said pin or between the pin and a connecting rod bush (8) situated in the said boss. Given appropriate dimensioning of the outside diameter of this intermediate bush (7), the diameter (6) of the hole in the boss or the connecting rod bush (8) is capable of taking the larger-diameter pin of an aluminium piston. The wall thickness of the bush can be conically tapered at at least one of its two ends. <IMAGE>
