In a piston engine having a piston space, in which a warm gaseous medium is compressed and heated, and having a liquid-injection device by means of which a liquid is injected into the piston space, a positive pressure is produced in the piston engine, i.e. force. The gaseous medium is warmed in a warming chamber arranged outside the piston space. This makes it possible to avoid the production of exhaust gases and to avoid being limited to one fuel.
