Electrical battery comprising odd number of cylindrical cells - uses dummy conductive cell to allow regular battery formation without need for special connectors

The battery is formed from an odd number of cylindrically shaped electrochemical cells (1) grouped in two parallel rows and electrically connected (2) one to the other. To avoid the need for a special connector when there is an odd number of cells, a dummy cell (10) made from a conducting material is incorporated in the group. The dummy cell (10) is made up from an open toy cylinder with a fitted cap., both manufactured from a conducting material. The external dimensions are the same as those of a normal cell, and the cap as a raised central projection identical to that on conventional cells. Flat strip connectors (2) of the same type as used throughout the battery are then used to link the dummy cell to its neighbours.
