<p>A method for reducing friction exhibited by an aqueous liquid passing through a pipe under non-laminar flow conditions, and aqueous liquid materials with such reduced friction containing a visco-elastic surface- active agent and an organic electrolyte. The method consists of sending through a pipe an aqueous liquid containing 1 a surface-active compound with a surface- active ion and 2 an organic electrolyte with a fraction, which is capable of combining with the surface-active ion to form a visco-elastic surface-active agent, the visco- elastic surface-active agent combining in a quantity sufficient to reduce the friction of the aqueous liquid when it passes through the pipe, the organic electrolyte combining in a quantity sufficient to further reduce the friction that is exhibited by the aqueous liquid containing the visco-elastic surface-active agent when it passes through a pipe under non-laminar flow conditions. The aqueous liquid materials are useful in district heating systems, drilling fluids, waste water systems and as carriers in the transport of coal, slurry and other minerals.</p> |
