PURPOSE:To obtain an electrode, which is used for a small sealed lead battery suitable for a power source used for the semiconductor memory backup of a computer, by subjecting an active material powder subjected to formation treatment and a thickener powder having a specified composition together to pressure molding. CONSTITUTION:As a binding agent which can be pressed and molded at low temperature and has a high liquid-absorbing ability, a thickener powder containing as bases at least one element chosen from among calcium silicate, silica and aluminum silicate is mixed into an electrode for a lead battery. Such a thickener, most usually, is available as bentonite. A positive active material, after undergoing formation treatment, is washed with water, dried and crushed. Next, the crushed positive active material is added with bentonite, and the mixture is mixed at 50 deg.C under a relative humidity of 80% for one hour. As to a negative electrode, bentonite is mixed into a negative active material at 50 deg.C under a relative humidity of 80%, and in an atmosphere of argon gas in order to suppress oxidation. |
