1,017,197. Solvent recovery apparatus. M. ZIMMERMANN. Oct. 26, 1964 [Oct. 25, 1963], No. 43546/64. Heading B1L. A solvent recovery apparatus comprises a chamber 2 containing activated charcoal and an evaporation vessel 7 open at the top and directly connected into the bottom of said chamber. As shown in the Figure, to which the above numerals refer, air saturated with solvents, e.g. perchloroethylene and trichloroethylene, is passed into the adsorption chamber through conduit 1, passes through the adsorbent supported on grid 19 and purified air is removed at 4. After the adsorbent is saturated, valves 5 are closed, valve 26 is opened to fill the evaporator with water, valve 28 is opened and heater 9 is switched on (switch 29). A further heater 11 superheats the steam, avoiding the necessity to generate under high pressure. The solvent is stripped by the steam and the mixture passed to condenser 22 and separator 23. Valves 5, 26 and 28 and switch 29 may be operated by a single handle. Immediately after stripping, vessel 7 is preferably drained and refilled with cold water. An annular cup 17 and drip plate 18 prevent solvent drops and charcoal particles entering vessel 7.
|
