The test set is intended to be suitable not only for testing the electrical lighting and braking system of motor vehicles with and without trailers, but is also intended to assist the repair of faults which occur, by fault localisation by means of tracking and delineation, and which can be used by a single person. This is made possible by a connecting cable having a 12 volt plug at one end and a 24 volt plug at the other end, and a circuit housing having a 12 volt socket and a 24 volt socket, and having two parking light monitoring lamps for separately testing the two parking light circuits, having a brake light monitoring lamp and having a brake light switch, having a parking brake system monitoring lamp and having a parking brake system switch, having a right-hand flasher monitoring lamp and having a left-hand flasher monitoring lamp, and having a 12 volt load incandescent lamp which effects the automatic changeover from a 12 volt system to a 24 volt system, in conjunction with a 10 ohm resistor, a 24 volt voltage relay with a switch, and diodes.
