In a control device for the gas supply and combustion air supply to the burner of a water heater, the gas flow, which is directed from an injector nozzle at the inlet of the burner pipe, draws in primary air at the same time, while secondary air is introduced into the burner housing by means of a second injector nozzle. Both injector nozzles and the associated inlet openings are arranged in a housing chamber, the air inlet opening of which is opened only when the burner is switched on. Thus, when the burner is switched off, an air flow from the air inlet through the burner housing to the flue gas take-off is avoided, which would carry off heat stored in the burner unused.
