Carrier elements (20, 20') which are mounted on a circulating chain (19, 19') and interact in pairs are provided on each side of the stack (4). The two carrier elements (20, 20') of a pair travel into the respective lowermost printed product (5), against the lateral edges (5b) thereof and come to a stop at the collar (5a) of said printed product. As they move further, the carrier elements (20, 20') carry the grasped printed product (5'') with them and withdraw it below the stack (4). The printed product (5''') released by the carrier elements (20, 20') is received by removal conveyor belts (26, 26') and removed. This device can process even printed products (5) of substantial thickness. <IMAGE>
