PURPOSE:To prevent the entry of air into a furnace port and to recover converter gases efficiently by making use of the sensible heat of general waste gases by introducing the general waste gases of factories into a converter to form an atmosphere that contains virtually no oxygen around the skirt of said converter. CONSTITUTION:The gases consisting essentially of CO of high temp. generated by blowing in a converter 1 flow through an upper opening then through a radiating part 2 by which the gases are cooled. The cooled gases are sucked and fed through primary, secondary dust collectors 3, 4 to a gas holder 5. A skirt 6 is provided between the opening of said converter 1 and the hood part at the bottom end of the part 2, and further a dust collecting hood 7 enclosing the same and an annular duct 8 opening toward the spacing formed by the converter 1 and the skirt 6 are provided. General waste gases from a waste gas generating source 11 such as a boiler, a hot stove, or the like are conducted into said duct 8 and hod 7 to maintain the oxygen in the atmosphere gas around said skirt 6 nearly zero, whereby the entry of air into the furnace port is prevented and the sensible heat of the above-mentioned general waste gases is utilized as well. |
