Electrodynamic impact devices for printing mechanisms of typewriters or similar office machines should consist of simple components which on the one hand permit the use of assembly machines and on the other hand can be used for high impact frequencies with a long service life. Although printing hammers (1) which execute a linear movement and have at one end a magnetisable hammer head (18) and at the other end an exciter coil (17) have proven suitable for this, they require good guidance. This is achieved according to the invention in that the printing hammer (1) is mounted displaceably on the one hand with its hammer head (18) in a bearing block (20) near to the print position and on the other hand with guides (61, 62, 63, 64) which are arranged inside the exciter coil (17) on the free ends of guide webs (32, 34). The printing hammer (1) has short, low-friction guides. <IMAGE>
