PURPOSE:To enable automatic detection of rottenness decision of food, by a method wherein food is irradiated with ultraviolet rays, and an area, emitting fluorescense as a result of the irradiation, is detected. CONSTITUTION:Food 2, i.e., eggs, whose rottenness is being detected, is irradiated with ultraviolet rays emitted by an ultraviolet rays generator 1. If an egg, being a sample 2, is irradiated with ultraviolet rays, a fluorescent coloring matter emits in blue, green, or red. A numeral 3 is a television camera having an optical filter 3a, the collecting part of the camera television camera 3 is located facing said egg 2, and the television camera 3 for detecting light emitted from the egg 2 as a result of said irradiation with ultraviolet rays converts the detected light into an electric signal to supply it to an area analyzer 4. Based on a value of an emission area, where fluorescence is emitted from the egg, the area analyzer 4 decides the presence of rottenness of a sample. |
