A device for monitoring the yarn tension on a textile machine, such as a weaving machine, knitting machine, tufting machine or the like, has a group, corresponding to the number of yarns (12) to be processed, of identical leaf springs (25) which are retained at one end and which are equipped at their other end with a respective eye (26) for the run-through of the yarn (12). It has at least one light-source (28)/photocell (29) unit with a light barrier (27), each leaf spring (25) being pivotable into the range of the light barrier (27). In the event of a fault in the prestress of a yarn (12), the associated leaf spring (25) comes into the range of one of the light barriers (27 or 30), with the result that the textile machine is switched off immediately. <IMAGE>
