In steam bath devices with a saturated cabin atmosphere there is the problem of intensive steam generation with as little expenditure of water and energy as possible. To this end, the steam generating device is provided with a liquid circulation comprising a collection tank (1), a circulating pump (3) and a heating device (2), especially an electric heater. The liquid circulation can be guided over an evaporator (7) having a large surface area and through a container (4) for dissolving and mixing active substance. The liquid circulation permits quick evaporation with a low total liquid quantity and thus without generation of an undesirably high heat content together with the corresponding discharge and radiation losses. The liquid circulation over the evaporator surface promotes quick evaporation, and an intensive utilisation and concentration of active substance is obtained in the dissolving and mixing container. <IMAGE>
