To achieve a wide tuning range of a varactor-tunable oscillator in waveguide technology, comprising a resonating element (for example a Gunn diode 3) and an output diaphragm (2) for coupling out the radio-frequency power, two varactor diodes (41, 42), which are arranged symmetrically with respect to the output diaphragm/resonating element axis (A-A), are provided which are arranged approximately in the centre between the output diaphragm (2) and the resonating element (3). The distance from the walls of the cavity resonator is selected to be such that there is virtually no change in frequency of the cavity resonator with and without varactor diodes biased with a predeterminable reverse voltage. <IMAGE>
