The invention relates to the pressure forming of metals. The machine comprises a housing (1) with a combustion chamber (2) and a buffer space (3). The combustion chamber (2) is connected to an expansion cylinder (13) via a shut-off valve (8', 10). Arranged in this chamber are a plug (12) and an exhaust valve (11). Arranged in the opening (9) between the combustion chamber (2) and the buffer space (3) is a shut-off element (8), while the gaps between the latter and the wall of the opening (9) form channels (19') by which the combustion chamber (2) is connected to the buffer space (3).
