For mechanical deposition of fruit such as apples, an apparatus may be utilised which at the top receives the fruit 1 and which at the bottom delivers said fruit in a box 14 in such a way that the fruit is not subjected to bumps during the deposition. This is ensured in that the apparatus at the top is provided with a bowl-like disc 3 which is provided with a passage hole 4 for the fruit, and letting said disc rotate while the fruit is being supplied. Down in the bowl, some arms 5 are further rotating at a larger rotational speed such that the fruit is guided down the hole 4. Below the hole, two bands 6, 7 having protrusions 10 on their outside are rotating, such that the fruit may be kept between the bands during its movement downwards to the delivery. The distance to the point of delivery is traced by a feeler 12 being mounted on a plate 11 sliding over the fruit 13 in the box. When the angle is changed, the box is lowered accordingly. <IMAGE>
