Velour, process for its production, and its use

A velour having a suede-like handle is in the form of a flexible, breathable textile fibrous sheet-like structure impregnated with an elastomeric binder and comprises according to the invention a sheet-like textile support produced from yarns comprising 100 % of polyester, which support has been alkalinised by treatment with a suitable base and impregnated with a polymer on one or both sides by the wet coagulation process and at least one side of which has been buffed at the surface. The velour has a texile appearance, a soft handle, a wear-resistant pile and is suitable in particular for the manufacture of garments.
