The dredger vessel is affected for the minimum amount by the motion of the sea, the effects of buoyancy forces and of the reactive forces resulting from the dredging operation being separated from each other as far as possible. The vessel hull, which provides the major part of the stability and buoyancy, hinges roughly midships on a horizontal athwartships axis on the dredger vessel frame, which has insufficient buoyancy and absorbs the reactive forces resulting from the dredging operation, current, wind etc. Thus the hull can roll with the swell in relation to the frame, while providing the necessary upwards force and stability roughly midships, at which point its movement is at the minimum, for the frame.
|
