According to the invention, a fuel metering device or system is disclosed which comprises a choke element with induction channel running through it and a choke valve for controlling the through flow through the induction channel, in addition having fuel metering devices for feeding metered fuel, the metered fuel which is at higher than atmospheric pressure is fed to a venturi nozzle (sonic nozzle). For its part, said nozzle feeds metered fuel to an annular discharge opening which is located within the induction channel downstream of the choke valve. In addition, air is fed to the metered fuel upstream of the venturi nozzle, specifically at the engine idling speed and at least at the majority of engine speeds following it. The annular discharge opening comprises a series of outlets which are spaced from one another and are directed radially towards the inside of the induction channel. The fuel metering device comprises a solenoid valve, a solenoid valve being constructed as a spherical valve and functioning as an armature.
