The invention relates to a method and an assembly device for lifting and applying a top tool plate. If the top tool plate (6) is to be lifted from a bottom tool plate (7), the tool plate (6) is first lifted vertically and then turned over. To mount the top tool plate (6) in position, it is first turned over in the opposite direction in such a way that it comes to lie at a slight distance above the bottom tool plate (7).
