PURPOSE:To shorten an operating time of a shutter, and to increase a transmission light quantity of the shutter, by forming a shutter part by placing a pair of electrodes on a substrate, and dispasing an embedded electrode in a part required for forming an electric field on the shutter part. CONSTITUTION:On a ferrodielectric substance substrate 11 having an electro- optical effect, a common electrode 12 and a signal electrode 13 are provided opposingly, a shutter part 14 is formed between them, a pair of polarized plates 15, 16 are disposed on both surface sides of the substrate 11 so that the polarized directions fall at right angles with each other, and unless voltage is applied to the substrate 11, light is intercepted, but when voltage is applied, light transmits the polarized plates 15, 16. Also, on the opposed end part positions of both electrodes 12, 13, embedded electrodes 17, 18 whose section is like a triangle are provided, and depth in the thickness direction of an electric field 19 operating on the shutter part 14 can be increased, therefore, the time of rise and fall in case of on/off can be shortened. |
