1312254 Influencing mammalian genital functions DOW CORNING CORP 1 July 1969 [1 July 1968] 33061/69 Heading A5B The genital functions of non-human mammals are influenced by administering thereto, either orally, parenterally or topically, an organosilicon compound selected from a wide range of specified compounds. It is stated that, depending on the dosage and the particular compound used, the functions of both male and female sex accessory organs may be increased or decreased to increase or decrease fertility. The compounds may also be used to treat prostatic hypertrophy and prostatic carcinoma. The invention also comprises pharmaceutical compositions for administration to man and animals comprising the active compounds in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable solid carrier. Active compounds which may be used include: those having the formulae: siloxanes having three silicon atoms per molecule, said silicon atoms being linked by a divalent oxygen atom, at least one of the silicone atoms having one valence satisfied by a phenyl radical or a hydrogen atom, the remaining valences of the Si atoms being satisfied by substituents selected from phenyl radicals, hydrogen atoms, C 1-6 alkyl radicals and OH radicals, there being no more than 2 hydroxyl radicals or Sibonded H atoms per molecule; and an equilibrated copolymer mixture consisting primarily of about 60% by weight of phenylmethyl siloxane units and 40% dimethylsiloxane units, the said copolymer having a viscosity, a specific gravity, a refractive index, an open cup flash point and an acid number within specified limits. |
