PURPOSE:To provide an electrolytic cell at a low cost, in an electrolyzing apparatus using an ion-exchange membrane, by attaching the ion-exchange membrane, an anode plate and a cathode plate to the frames of an anodic chamber and a cathodic chamber by a specified method. CONSTITUTION:In the filter press-type ion-exchange membrane electrolytic cell to be used for electrolyzing salt water, water, hydrochloric acid, etc., porous anode plates 1 prepared by coating the surface of a Ti-made expanded metal with a platinum- group metal or its alloy or oxide are attached to the opposite surfaces of the frame 2 of an anodic chamber with hooks 14 without being flanged. Porous cathode plates 3 made of Fe, stainless steel, Ni or the like are supported at the opposite surfaces of the frame 4 of a cathodic chamber in the same way. A cation-exchange membrane 5 is located between the anode plate 1 and the cathode plate 3 and supported with the two chamber frames 2, 4. The side end parts of the anode plate 1 and the cathode plate 3 are slightly extended beyond the chamber frames and attached to bus bars through connecting plates 8 and 9, respectively, for the two electrodes. It is not necessary to use a hollow pipe or the like made of an expensive material for the chamber frames, and the electrolytic cell can be made at a low cost. |
