In order to support a laser tube in a directionally stable manner in a tubular sheath, the following construction is proposed: supporting sleeves are pressed into the sheath in each case from both sides; these sleeves in each case have two projections against which the cylindrical jacket of the laser tube is pressed by a spring inserted into the sleeve. In one preferred exemplary embodiment, the sheath consists of an aluminium tube, an electrically insulating plastic, which is thermally matched to aluminium, is selected for the sleeves, the sleeve projections - seen from a direction parallel to the sleeve longitudinal axis - have the shape of circular segments with fibres running obliquely towards one another, and the springs consist of steel wires bent in an angled manner. The proposed laser head is primarily suitable for scanning video discs. <IMAGE>
